We are delighted to welcome Raúl Edwin Silvestre Olivares as a new Schmelzer Trombones Artist. With over 30 years of experience, Raúl has established himself as a versatile trombonist, excelling in symphonic, jazz, and Latin music. His exceptional technique, musicality, and adaptability make him a valuable addition to the Schmelzer family.
Throughout his career, Raúl has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles, including the Viña del Mar Festival Orchestra, the Chilean Symphony Orchestra, Santiago All Stars, and Los Andes Big Band. He has also collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists such as Raphael, David Bisbal, Cheo Feliciano, Jimmy Bosch, Alberto Plaza, Inti-Illimani, and Los Jaivas, among many others.
Beyond performing, Raúl has made significant contributions as an arranger, music director, and educator. He has been a professor at the Escuela Moderna de Música and the Escuela Superior de Jazz de Santiago, mentoring new generations of trombonists. His dedication to teaching and his deep knowledge of the instrument have influenced many musicians in Latin America and beyond.
To achieve his unique sound and precision, Raúl plays the Schmelzer Trombone Model 1, a high-quality instrument designed for clarity, responsiveness, and a warm, rich tone. This model features a 0.500″ bore, a 19.5 cm silver-plated bell with a gold interior, and a nickel slide, offering excellent projection and control, making it ideal for both solo and ensemble performances.
His extensive career has taken him on tours across Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, performing on some of the world’s most renowned stages. His ability to seamlessly transition between musical styles, from classical to salsa and pop, sets him apart as one of the most versatile trombonists of his generation.
